The innaugural season opener is the Community Shield, often referred to as the Charity Shield but renamed after it was realised there wasn't much money going to charity. Manchester United and Portsmouth will contest the FA Community Shield as winners of the Premier League and The FA Cup. However on Thursday night in Macclesfield... Arsenal Ladies take on Everton Ladies in the FA Women's Community Shield.
I've been a huge advocate of Women's Football, and have a lot of faith in the sport developing into something very special. Unfortunately at the moment, there is not enough quality in the game, but it is going in the right direction, and that is why the meeting of Arsenal Ladies and Everton Ladies should be a game to take note of. Arsenal Ladies have been a hugely dominant force in Women's Football, last year almost completing an almighty quadruple, but despite a 58 match unbeaten domestic run, they fell short. The team to end that spectacular run? Everton Ladies in the League Cup Final.
These two clubs are the best teams to watch in Women's Football, and I have picked out Rachel Brown of Everton, and Emma Byrne of Arsenal to look out for. Yes they are both very attractive women, but that aside, they're both excellent goalkeepers, representing England and Rep. of Ireland respectively.
